Press ReleaseTyco Electronics Introduces Elo TouchSystems 15D1 All-in-One TouchcomputerVersatile All-in-One Touchcomputer Brings Style, Flexibility and Functionality to POS environments Harrisburg, Pa, January 2009— With the release of the Elo TouchSystems 15D1 All-in-One Touchcomputer, Tyco Electronics delivers a versatile, highly functional and elegantly designed touch system for POS applications in retail and hospitality environments. Scheduled for launch in the beginning of 2009, the 15D1 represents a new direction in touchcomputer solutions, explains Nadia Vandeweyer, Marketing Manager. “Our POS customers wanted a touchcomputer with the same industry-leading quality and value they’ve come to expect from Tyco Electronics’ Elo TouchSystems, coupled with performance, enhanced field-serviceability and the connectivity options required for POS applications.” Designed for point-of-sale applications from the ground up, the 15D1 offers a slim, vertical design with a footprint that is sized to match standard cash drawers. Its motherboard, hard drive and power supply are all easily accessible and field-replaceable, enabling rapid replacement and upgrading, which significantly reduces downtime. For customers who require more storage capabilities, a second, 80-gigabit hard drive can easily be added. A broad range of POS peripherals are available from Elo – including a perpendicular MSR card reader for easy reach in small spaces, a hand-held bar code scanner, a fingerprint reader, and a customer facing display – to easily customize the 15D1. Upgrading and adding new functionality to the unit is quick and easy because the peripherals are field-installable. Furthermore, the 15D1 comes with a range of input/output port connection options to allow virtually any POS configuration and it supports third party peripherals such as cash drawers or printers. The Elo 15D1 offers a choice of Windows Embedded for POS (WEPOS), Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems fully installed, enabling broad compatibility with peripheral software and drivers. It also offers driver software support for Elo peripherals and cash drawer (OPOS). Finally, the new all-in-one touchcomputer is available with True-Flat AccuTouch, IntelliTouch surface acoustic wave or Zero-Bezel Acoustic Pulse Recognition (APR) touch technologies. The Zero-Bezel APR technology allows a virtually 100 percent useable surface area. The zero-bezel design removes the frame or bezel of standard monitors to create a seamless glass surface designed to showcase a brilliant touch experience, and for easier maintenance. “We actively designed the 15D1 with the end customer in mind,” concludes Vandeweyer. “We’re confident the Elo 15D1 POS All-in-One will bring performance, versatility, and functionality to even the most exacting POS applications."
