World Number One for Touch Technology Shows Ace Hand at Casino Extravaganza

See and touch breakthrough new products at ICE 2007

January 2007 - Elo TouchSystems, the global leader in touch technology and a business unit of Tyco Electronics, is showing the touch equivalent of a royal flush at the International Casino Exhibition (ICE 2007) from 23rd to 25th January at Earl's Court 2, London, UK. Alongside what may be the world's best gaming monitor product line and IntelliTouch surface wave technology, Elo is encouraging hands-on evaluation of its new improved capacitive technology and breakthrough APR (acoustic pulse recognition) technology. Elo TouchSystems is demonstrating its ability to meet the requirements of all casino and gaming applications with touch solutions that deliver first class performance and the highest reliability on the gaming floor.

New Generation Controller for Capacitive Touchscreens

Elo's capacitive touch technology provides a viable alternative to the capacitive options currently available - and from a world-class manufacturer. Elo capacitive touchscreens incorporate an important rear ground layer for operation in electrically noisy environments. The new 5020 controller enables Elo to provide improved performance and enhanced accuracy, as well as providing support for both industry standard protocols. Capacitive technology offers fast and sensitive touch response with excellent dragging performance.

Breakthrough New Touch Technology - APR

Also on show is Elo's most recent technology development - Acoustic Pulse Recognition (APR). APR is a completely new and unique way of sensing touches on a display which provides a set of benefits for gamers that have only partially been achieved before by other touch technologies. APR features the optical qualities and scratch resistance of a pure glass touch sensor like Elo's popular IntelliTouch surface wave technology, but has the additional benefits of operation with a fingernail, excellent dragging performance like capacitive, unique palm rejection properties and extremely narrow 5mm borders for side-by-side displays.

"APR touch technology operates by listening for a touch," says Elo Director of Product Management, Michael Bartelmess. "A touch at each position on the glass generates a unique sound. Four tiny transducers attached to the edges of the touchscreen glass pick up the sound of the touch. The sound is then digitised by the controller and compared to a list of prerecorded sounds for every position on the glass." APR works with water and other contaminants on the screen, can be sealed to IP65 standards and is not affected by surrounding metal or poor grounding.

Bartelmess continues, "You have to try it to believe it. This technology has the potential of changing the whole concept of touch technology in gaming."

APR is currently shipping on Elo's 1529L desktop monitors. The technology is planned for Elo's rear-mount gaming monitors including the 1739L and 1939L.

In Demand Gaming Monitors

Elo is the world's largest producer of touchmonitors, and its gaming monitor line, including the 1537L, 1739L, and 1939L, is becoming increasingly popular in gaming and casino applications. Among the features that make these products so successful are small form factor with top quality panels, unique watertight minibezel, worldwide agency approvals, global logistics and support and overall quality of design and production that is apparent immediately after taking it out of the box.

Besides surface wave and capacitive touch options, a new anti-vandal SecureTouch touchscreen option for these monitors is being shown at ICE.

Additional Highlights at Elo's Booth
